Foster Care Program Receives SC Johnson Grant

March 7, 2022
The grant helps Lawrence Hall continue providing high quality Foster Care services

CHICAGO, IL — March 7, 2022 Lawrence Hall is pleased to announce it has received a $30,000 grant from SC Johnson to help support its Foster Care program. As a subsidiary of the IL Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Lawrence Hall’s Foster Care program creates an environment of stability while securing safe placements for each child referred to the agency by DCFS. The SC Johnson grant assists Foster Care caseworkers as they advocate for the health of each youth in their care by creating Individual Treatment Plans based on each child’s support needs.

The overarching goal of Lawrence Hall’s Foster Care program is to provide a healthy and secure permanent home for each child in care, either by reunification with their homes of origin or through adoption. With these supportive placements, youth are able to mature, flourish, and become positive members of their communities. Caseworkers reach these milestones through monthly checkups and, when appropriate, facilitated visits between siblings and families of origin.

SC Johnson’s funding will aid the Foster Care program in achieving its permanency goal for each child through Service Plans including:

  • Administrative case reviews held every six months in addition to monthly in-person contacts
  • Educational plans, including tutoring and school supports
  • Monitoring school attendance and progress toward graduation or vocational opportunities
  • Evidence-based Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, individually and as family units
  • Daily living plans to build self-management and life skills
  • Promoting family caregiver connections to encourage healthy attachments and bonding
  • Scheduling regular health and dental appointments

Annually serving over 1,400 youth and families, Lawrence Hall is a community-based organization committed to helping Chicago’s youth, families, and communities heal from the adverse effects of childhood trauma. For more than 150 years, Lawrence Hall has been delivering high-quality care throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and is a statewide leader in highly effective, evidence-based, and innovative therapeutic treatment. Their core programs—Child and Family Treatment Center, Therapeutic Day School, Creative Therapies, Foster Care, Transitional/Independent Living Program, Workforce Development, and Community Wellness—have met the changing and complex needs of youth and families by not only becoming more community based, but also by developing more preventative programs that help curb violence in Chicago’s communities.
