Lawrence Hall offers a wide range of individual and group opportunities with flexible weekday time commitments to fit any schedule. Come make a difference with us today!

Opportunities for Individuals

Be the change you want to see in the world and find how just one person can make a difference.

Events & In-Kind Fundraisers

  • Fall Fête
  • Back to School Supply Drive
    • Pack backpacks with donated classroom essentials so our youth have the supplies to thrive in the upcoming school year
  •  Holiday Wish List Drive
    • After our donors fulfill the wish list of a young person, attend one of our Gift Wrapping Parties and help bring holiday magic to our youth

Mentoring

Consider becoming a mentor, where you commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to one of our youth for a period of at least one year. By becoming part of the network of adults and community members who care about the young mentee, mentors can help youth develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.

  • Role of a mentor
    • Serve as a positive role model and friend
    • Build the relationship by planning and participating in activities with one another
    • Be a non-judgmental listener and strive for mutual respect
    • Build self-esteem and motivation through patience and encouragement
    • Help set and work toward goals
  • Time Commitment
    • Full calendar year
    • Meet with youth mentee at least one hour per week
    • Consistent communication with the Manager of Volunteer Services as well as youth’s core team
  • Participation Requirements
    • Be at least 21 years old
    • Have no history of child abuse or neglect
    • Be interested in working with young people
    • Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
    • Be willing to complete the application, background check, and fingerprint process
    • Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments
    • Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff and take constructive feedback

Tutoring

Want to help a young person feel successful in school? Help our students feel empowered in their classes by tutoring them in a variety of subjects and modeling a positive attitude towards learning.

Volunteer Board Service

  • Associate Board
    • Meet once a month with energized, young professionals to plan monthly weekend events such as laser tag, afternoon movie showings, sport outings, and ice cream socials with Lawrence Hall youth
  • Auxiliary Board
    • Be a force of love on this volunteer board and meet quarterly to plan events like holidays, birthday parties, and annual celebrations for youth in our Child and Family Treatment Center

Beautification & Home Improvement

Beautification and home improvement opportunities provide individuals with the chance to contribute their skills and time to enhance our community spaces, assist with campus repairs, and create more welcoming environments for our youth and staff.

Opportunities for Groups & Corporations

Want to find a meaningful way to help your friends, social group, or company deepen connections? Lawrence Hall can help plan a rewarding experience so your group feels bonded and inspired knowing they’ve made a difference.

Beautification & Home Improvement

Whether it’s tending to our Garden of Serenity or brightening a room with a fresh coat of paint, beautification and home improvement volunteer opportunities provide groups the chance to contribute their skills and time to enhance our community spaces, assist with campus repairs, and create more welcoming environments for our youth and staff.

In-Kind & Office Drives

Plan an in-kind drive by collecting school supplies, hygiene items, professional clothing, food, or holiday gifts with your office or group!

  • Hygiene Kit Drive
    • In your office, collect hygiene items and host an event for your team to pack up the supplies for distribution, where they’ll later go to the youth and community members we serve
  • Back to School Drive
    • Start a drive for new classroom essentials and pack them in-office or at one of our Back to School volunteer events to ensure our youth have the supplies to thrive in the upcoming school year
  • Holiday Wish List Drive
    • Host a gift drive or have your group fulfill multiple youth wish lists and attend one of our Gift Wrapping Parties as a squad!

Employer Recruitment

Help us fulfill the employment goals of our older youth by connecting us with employers, offering employment in partnership with our Workforce Development program, or mentoring youth to develop job skills.

Marketing & Public Relations

Share Lawrence Hall’s mission across Chicago through video, digital, and print storytelling, media connections, SEO optimization techniques, and pro bono graphic and web design services.
