Over a decade ago, Lawrence Hall planted roots in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood with a driving purpose in mind: community connection.
And that connection isn’t something that happens overnight; it’s built through lasting trust.
In our Community Wellness program, we meet young people who have often been conditioned to expect judgement. Instead, they find care through mentorship, meals, and a space where they are heard, not just “handled.”
It’s our relationship-driven approach that has youth like Makayla and Lorenzo stopping by multiple times a week, long after they’ve completed their court-mandated programming. It’s why our neighbors wave to us every morning, eager to catch up at our weekly Community Meals.
The impact of building trust through consistency and intentional relationships is clear:
- 93% of youth reported they are less likely to reengage in violence because of the support they found
- 96% of eligible youth successfully had their records expunged
- Over 30,550 free meals have been served since 2020, forging lasting bonds with our neighbors
The roots that Lawrence Hall planted in South Shore 11 years ago formed a foundational space where healing isn’t just possible but happening every day. In an already strong community, Lawrence Hall has grown, amplifying its existing power and fulfilling our promise to be a presence of hope.
Being part of a community means recognizing our shared responsibility to one another. When we invest in each other, we create a legacy of resilience that can impact generations. This spring, donate to help us deepen these roots for a connected, empowered South Shore and greater Chicago community. Your support ensures we can continue to show up for one another and prove that when a community stands together, the potential is limitless.
